Hand signs. Doing that crazy hand jiveI’ve only found one shot of a model flipping the bird, and it was a candid picture of Sophie Mae. I don’t know what Sophie’s belly dancing hand gestures mean in this photo and I couldn’t find out. Maybe Sophie will read this Blog and tell us. Or maybe there is no special meaning to them. Sarah Rae’s hand signs are much better known. The heart sign means “I love you.” The circle means A-Okay. Hitomi likes to make that V sign with palms out. Besides victory, it also means peace and love. According to Wikipedia, in Asia it means an “indication of cuteness when being photographed.” Hitomi makes that hand sign a lot in her photos. Sometimes I’ll see a photo of a girl doing the V sign with her palm inward and her tongue between her fingers. I know what that means. I’d like to see some SCORE and Voluptuous Girls make that sign. Slone Ryder’s hand sign is self-explanatory. Joanna Lake gave us a parting hand sign at the end of her pictorial.  Sophie: the secret belly dancing hand signs.  Sarah Rae: "I heart you."  A place of honor for Minka's bra. Minka’s bras move in mysterious ways. Veteran SCORE Man D.R. was announced as the winner of Minka’s most-recent signed bra giveaway (November ’12 SCORE). “Holy shit!” D.R. wrote when I contacted him. “Minka has been my favorite model for a long time and I think I have all her videos and SCORE mags. As a founding member of SCORE, please keep looking for another Linsey Dawn McKenzie. I will send you a pic of Minka’s bra and me when I figure out how to display it in my man-cave. I am so happy. Merry Christmas to me!” Well, D.R. kept his promise and sent us this photo with Minka’s mounted bra behind him. Man, does he look content. “I have mounted it to my Dale Earnhardt Jr. race tire in my man cave,” D.R. told us. “I love it. Thanks, Minka and SCORE.” Thank you for the photo, D.R. Nice to see that a place of honor has been created for that amazing colossal hooter holster. October ’13 will mark Minka’s 19th year as a SCORE Girl. She debuted as a covergirl in the October ’94 issue. I mentioned that Minka’s bras move in mysterious ways. Here’s why. A box showed up recently with a letter. Inside the box was an authentic Minka 44KK bra in pristine condition, signed and dated 9/19/08 from our April ’09 giveaway. This was the first bra return in over six years of bra contests. Also in the box was a mint copy of the November ’07 SCORE signed by Christy Marks from another contest. (That issue was Christy’s first magazine appearance.) The letter explained what was going on. “To Elliot James: My new bride doesn’t want me to have these hanging around so I’m returning them to you at SCORE. An autographed copy from Christy and Minka’s autographed boulder holder. Yes, I was a double winner. Please find a new home for them.” This is not as critical as finding a basket with two puppies on your doorstep, but we still need to find a new place of honor for these two prime articles of SCORE magazine history. So we’re re-running the contests in one shot in the October ’13 issue, on-sale July 9. This is the first time Minka’s bra has been dumped for another woman. Hay now! Word scholars teach that “makin’ hay” is short for “making hay while the sun shines.” That saying comes from the fact that it’s difficult to make hay in rainy weather. It changed over the years to “grabbing an opportunity when it presents itself.” There’s also “making hay” or “a roll in the hay” to mean fucking or making-out. The place where the mythical horny farmer’s daughter takes the farm hand to bang his brains out. I think a roll on the hay makes more sense. (I don’t know anyone who ever fucked in hay. That’s gotta sting.) I have hay on the brain because the studio manager brought Dave, Karl (a new editorial assistant) and me to check out the studio set for today. A selfie is a photo from mild to wild that a girl takes of herself with a digital camera or phone, then invariably posts it on some social network site. There are two kinds of selfies. Sometimes the selfie is taken in a mirror; other times when the camera is at arms-length. Then there are the double selfies when the photographer and her friend are in the shot. Selfies came into their own when cell phones began adding camera capabilities around 2004 but they really took off when smartphones hit in 2007. Girls could have been taking selfies for years but they didn’t. If I had told a girl in school to take a self-shot of herself, she’d have thought I was nuts. They never thought of it for a second. And there was no internet. Who would see them? Cameras the size of smartphones and smaller have been around for decades but the exposed film needed processing and that was 24 hours at the quickest, although Polaroid cameras produced instant prints. Ease of use and immediate gratification is what attracts girls to selfies plus the websites to show themselves to the world. The latest digital cameras and smartphones can even show the subject what the picture will look like before she takes it. Today, girls are camera-crazy and the smartphone is responsible for it. Social scientists are just now beginning to study this exploding phenomenon. I like seeing SCORELAND models’ selfies. It’s just not easy for them to get their boobs in the shot. What did SCORE Girls do first in the wonderful world of labor before the call of the camera became too powerful to resist? We asked a few sweet things and here’s what they said. At the Université de Bretagne-Sud in France, two experiments were carried out in order to test the effect a woman’s breast size would have on the number of men approaching her. The researchers hypothesized that an increase in breast size would be associated with an increase in approaches by men. This experiment’s a no-brainer, eh? A young female confederate wore a special bra that let her inflate the cup size at will. In the first experiment, the girl was instructed to sit in a nightclub for one hour, and in the second experiment, she was instructed to take a seat at a sidewalk cafe. It was found that increasing her breast size was associated with an increasing number of guys introducing themselves. Truly a fantastic discovery. Well worth the research grant.
