Voluptuous turns 25. Let’s play remember when!

April 3, 2019 by Dave

The first issue of Voluptuous is fetching upwards of $200 on the open market. Do you have one?

Voluptuous magazine is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and we’re all hard at work (and working hard) on the 25th anniversary issue (Volume 26, No. 4). I can guarantee it’s going to be a special issue, unlike any issue we’ve ever produced. A real collector’s item: the story of V-mag from 1994 until today in words, pictures and, counting the bonuses, video.

Back in 1994, SCORELAND and XLGirls.com didn’t exist, so I’m betting that many of you were magazine readers back in 1994 and beyond. I know that a lot of you still read the mags.

Anyway, I’d like to know your thoughts about V-mag‘s 25th anniversary. Were you a reader? Are you still a reader? What are your favorite memories of Voluptuous? Your favorite girls? Favorite issues? What did you like most about Voluptuous, and what made it special to you? Do you remember your first issue and when you saw Voluptuous for the first time? What was your reaction?

I’d love to include your thoughts in the 25th anniversary issue. After all, without its readers, a magazine has nothing. Thanks!

    Boy, does time fly!

I was 19 years old when buying that first issue in a smoke shop, somewhere
in Boston, run by old timers that had ashtrays next to the registers.
Before Voluptuous, it was a lot of fake tits & plastic breasts, in those other
    publications.
But i was blown away by the content & models, that seemed too good to be
true: Nicole Peters, Olga (from Germany), Jordan Hart, Dawn Stone, Via Paxton,
a million others i’ve loved & forgotten, straight into the stone cold legends like
Christy Marks, Merilyn, Hitomi, Linsey Dawn, Autumn Jade, Alexya….

But those early issues were so ground breaking, in my mind.
    There was no internet, streaming….
You had magazines with fake tits & the crappy VHS format.
Voluptuous was the beginning of something that would later grow via the
internet, with various sites devoted to what the magazine started.

We really appreciate all of your kind and thoughtful comments. They mean a lot.

I guarantee that the 25th anniversary issue of Voluptuous will be unlike any men’s magazine ever. I say that without any risk of being proven wrong.

  5. Seth says:

ALL the comments are so truly perfect…. About all I can say is hands down, me too.. I absolutely Love Voluptuous mag, and as it came about, XL Girls….. And of course the genesis and flagship publication that led to the beloved aforementioned publications, Score. I have professed my love of these three magazines for a good many years now. The second I see any one of those three in digital, I buy right away…. I am entirely assured of THE VERY BEST content imaginable for a monster curves aficionado which unabashedly, I am. Like others have asserted, I don’t just like curves of all kinds, preferably massive, but I LOVE them more than I can say. These three publications own my deepest appreciation…. And if nothing else, I must say how much I love the word Voluptuous, because in its connotation and spirit, it encapsulates every bit of what I love in a gorgeous woman; and Score, Voluptuous and XL Girls magazines put a dream into a visual reality in the most stunning and breathtaking manner conceivable….. I am an ardent and adoring fan with no end in sight, and I too happened upon this dream bounty publication(s) in the mid nineties and I count myself so lucky as a result….. As others have said, I can’t thank the entire team behind these magazines enough, particularly the stewardship and genuine correspondence of Elliot and Dave…. What can I say other than thank you for all the heart you put into all of TSG, what you all have crafted is Pure Perfection.

Congratulations, guys on 25 years!!! The very first issue I purchased was Angela White’s debut and seeing her beautiful face and phenomenal rack pop out from the cover almost made me hyperventilate. I’ve been a huge fan of V-Mag ever since. There are so many memories it’s really difficult to name them all. Same with the models-there are so many that have graced those pages! The girls I remember the most?
    Lenka
    Diane Poppos
    Lorna Morgan
    Kerry Marie
    Linzi Cassidy
    Jezhabelle
    Annette Christensen
    Autumn Jade
and of course, my all time favorite Sharday

Thanks for all your hard work, guys!!!

Dave, regarding the parameters of who’s a V-Mag girl, twenty five years ago there was no XL Girls . . . so the boundaries, so to speak, were bound to stretch at Voluptuous to accommodate a variety of sizes. That’s where we went to enjoy natural women of all bountiful degrees. I always think of Samantha 38G as the ultimate XL Girl, but she got her start at V-Mag, until Voluptuous begat XL Girls first as a run of specials and then as its own magazine.

What’s interesting to me is the different experience between the magazines and the web site. Score and V-Mag have always been the core of Scoreland, with XL Girls its own entity online. Over the years, the line between Score and Voluptuous at Scoreland has pretty much disappeared. which is fine by me. But I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart (and a hard spot elsewhere) for Voluptuous, because it was the magazine that kind of turned the tide for those of use who desired all-natural big boob content . . . and yes, that includes hirsute and pregnat women as well.

  8. Alex says:

Joey Ahhh Via Paxton I’d love if she came back. So curvy, pretty with a great smile!

  9. Joey says:

Just remembered another favorite of mine. Via Paxton!

  10. Dave says:

I’m enjoying your thoughts about V-mag’s 25th. It’s funny that although I’ve been the editor of Voluptuous, on and off but mostly on, since around 2001 and was a buyer of Voluptuous from the beginning, before I came to The SCORE Group, I have no recollection of when I bought my first issue. I just remember that one day, Voluptuous was there. I do remember Carol Brown making a major impact on me, as did Cathy Patrick. And there was one other model–I can’t remember her name but she was a big girl–who was face down, ass up on the beach, and I remember that the editor at the time wrote that she was picking sand out of her ass for weeks after that shoot. For some reason, that turned me on.

I’ve spent the last month going through every issue of Voluptuous ever. I know, tough job, but somebody has to do it. What struck me was how quickly readers let us know what they wanted and how different it was from what SCORE readers wanted. A lot of Voluptuous readers wanted to see hirsute girls and preggers. SCORE readers rarely did.

What also struck me is that the term “V-Girl” has never been strictly defined. Nobody has ever written us a letter saying, “This girl is too fat” or “This girl is too thin.” We’ve had Roberta Smallwood in the mag and we’ve also had Devon Daniels, Merilyn Sakova and Valory Irene. Really, although the magazine is named Voluptuous, the primary thing readers have asked for is big, natural tits. A pretty face never hurt, either.

purchased my first v mag in 2004 ( annie swanson on cover). bought it ever since.

have many back issues also, from about 1997.
i find mags just better for you know what, plus it’s great to pick up a random v mag on a quite day and remember the past models. ( internet is great but not the same)
not sure what i will do when v mag & score publish their last issue. (let’s hope there are many more years ahead.)
the one thing i like is that your production values have never lessened, each v mag is perfectly crafted.
even if i don’t like every model, i have never bought a bad issue.
WELL DONE TO EVERYONE CONCERNED OVER THE LAST 25 YEARS.

outside of your current models, some of my favourites have been daizie kellogg, linsey ward, janet jade & skarlett.
it’s always an added bonus if they do hardcore, but it’s not essential.
    once again , well done.

  12. Nick says:

Ahhh – yes. YES! As if my buying one magazine a month wasn’t enough for you guys. But then I wonder if I fathered any children with Ildiko, Traci Burr and others I fired off so much sperm in their honor. The great thing was voluptuous women getting the “Scoregirl” treatment – hair, makeup, great lingerie, nice sets. You showed (and still do) that curvy women on the plus side can be sexy. Sexy and desirable and worthy of a wank or two (…hundred – ahem). But it keeps coming! Sabina Leigh (droool), then onto Alaura Grey and Codi Vore. I keep telling myself: “It’s been a good run, aren’t you too old? Stop with the magazine, stop with Scoreland” Nope – hasn’t happened yet! My only wish is that more plush girls would see their peers in Voluptuous and realize they don’t have to wear sweatshirts and dress down, a little “va-va” will make guys go “VOOM!” Living in the mid-Atlantic area I keep having a dream I wish would come true of being hit by a car while staring at Maria Moore walking down the street, and then being attended at the hospital by nurse Renee Ross.

  13. Steve says:

Congratulations SCORE! In celebration of your silver anniversary I hope you release a commemorative DVD with vintage, unreleased and new footage of your models over the years from the very beginning. I would love to see some of your retired legendary models (including Devon Daniels, Kerry Marie, Stacy Owen, and Tawny Peaks) make brief cameos wishing Score well on its next 25 years!

  14. Joey says:

Been a reader since I was a wee lad in high school. I used to sneak into my friend’s dad’s garage to check out his stash with my friend. I always loved the busty ebony gals. My favorites over the years were Sammie Black, Jenny Hill, Chaz, Amanda White, Latina, Kim Eternity, Chaka T, Faith Stevens, Cassitty, and Africa Sexxx. I’ve been fapping to these ladies since I was a teen. I’d like to say they made a man out of me!

  15. carney22 says:

I was on board from the very beginning and read the magazine for years, before moving to the web site. For me, the significance of V-Mag is the transition it represented in readers’ tastes. The early days of Score were dominated by the slim-and-enhanced models, many of them dancers, who, to tell you the truth, never really resonated with me. I’ve always preferred natural curves in women of all sizes, and the debut of Voluptuous sort of confirmed that a lot of your readers shared the same feelings. So congrats on the first quarter of a century!

And, yeah, I had the first issue, but no longer do. Taking a look at the cover brings back fond memories of Jolene (who had the very first V-Mag photo spread) and the delicioius Trisha MacTavish!
