Smiling. It’s a subject that’s been generating controversy for years at SCORELAND. I think everyone loves a smiling model, but when a model doesn’t make smiling her natural expression or doesn’t smile a lot, then what? Some guys take it really hard. They write letters, like this one from R.C., slightly edited. “I love big boobs, but they are number two on my list of what makes a model, or any woman, desirable. Number one is the smile. A smile means that she is comfortable with herself and enjoys what she’s doing. I don’t get that from Ashley (Sage). Ashley, if you want to win me over, you must learn to smile.” This is not the first time he’s written about the smiling game.

On the flip side, there’s this recent note from S.M. “You know, Ashley doesn’t smile a whole lot in her pictures but so what, she has the look of contentment instead and as long as she’s content, that’s all that matters. Ashley looks so good facially and glamorously, she can afford not to smile.”
Two men. Two opposite points-of-view. There’s no right or wrong, just personal taste. Some models like to look serious because they think it makes them look sexier. Some models don’t like their smiles. Some don’t like their teeth. Everyone has different degrees of smiling. Other models love to smile. Some models are naturally happy-go-lucky all the time so they smile a lot. Others are the serious types. Some naturally smile, others have to be reminded by the photographer. When we see a serious-looking girl, it’s human nature to think she may be unhappy or having a bad day. Women smile more often and more naturally than men, too.
Researchers in psychology and social behavior claim that a smile gets a person what they want, sells more products, makes other people happier, establishes trust and personal bonds. According to the psychology research journal, Psyblog, “Some of the best-known research on smiling is about how people judge an authentic smile, the so-called, ‘Duchenne smile’ or the ‘crinkly-eyed smile’.” Different smiles are interpreted and associated differently. Tom Cruise’s smile doesn’t mean he’s going to kill someone like movie villain Henry Silva’s smile does.
Christy Marks’ smile, to me, often has a kind of Elvis quality to it. Not a sneer, but a kind of curl to the lip that’s seems lustful and sexual. I like it. Karina’s smile lights up a room. Brianna Costello has a great smile that lights up a room. When I first met her at a Vegas video expo in January, 2006, I noticed her dazzling smile as quickly as I noticed her blinding headlights and I thought to myself, “This girl’s a winner.” She’s got that curl thing going too.
I’d rather see a smile than a straight-faced, serious expression but above all, give me a natural look that doesn’t look like acting. And ultimately, it’s all about her boobs. So Ashley can do as she pleases. We’ve gotten many letters about smiling since 1992. What’s your op about the lip flip?

Twenty years ago, the trucks were delivering their bundles of the second issue of SCORE magazine (Volume 1, No. 2) while readers who’d read the first bi-monthly issue waited impatiently outside newsstands and stores for their next load of new big boobs.
L.A. Bust was SCORE‘s first covergirl. Who would be the covergirl of the August ’92 issue?
She turned out to be Letha Weapons. “This sexy 18-year-old is packing clubs across the U.S. and Canada,” the editor wrote in Miss Weapons’ 11-page layout that closed the issue. “No doubt, Letha’s plump pair of honeydew-sized melons could certainly be classified as weapons in the battle of the sexes.”

The rest of the issue included pictorials of dancer Zoryna Dreams; Tiffany Towers in a softcore sex scene with a guy; a softcore team-up Nilli Willis and Lisa Phillips and Jolene, a new 19-year old natural from San Diego, California.
There was an article by Christopher Caswell about the Vector, a $398,000 sportscar. The erotic short story was “Sylvia’s Secret” by Jackson Adams with art by Otis Sweat. There was a feature story, “How To Photograph Nude Models Part 2” by Evan Andrews. Evan wrote, “Being a glamour photographer will give you a way to open a conversation with all those girls you meet at the local sports bar and you will have a portfolio of photographs to back up your story. What guy could compete with you?” Indeed.
There was a two-pager about super-naturally busty Polish stripper and sexploitation actress Chesty Morgan. L.A. Bust began her first column “Night Moves,” the prototype of the columns that Alyssa Alps and Crystal Gunns would write.
Orion Jeweb contributed his scholarly breast column “Mam•mal•o•gy.” (“Because the spirit of rational inquiry demands the hard data of practical experience, Mam•mal•o•gy has come to realize that, as one reader put it, ‘a boob in the hand is worth two in the bra.'”)
Duncan Gutteridge painted a new Fantasy SCORE. “Homebodies” presented amateur hopefuls who’d sent in their Polaroids. Wrapping it up, there was a “Video Pick” and the “Scorecard” letters section.
The price? $4.95, $5.95 in Canada. (Gas was $1.13 a gallon.) I saw a used copy of this edition going for $23.95 now.

On the back cover, Lisa Gazombas promised big-boobed satisfaction for the next issue, November ’92. She later changed her moniker to Lisa Chest. I don’t remember why. I liked Gazombas. I still do.
And that’s the way it was, 20 years ago.
No Internet. No DVDs. No iPads, tablets, desktops or Smartphones. No SCORELAND.
There were print magazines and VHS tapes. That was it. And there were strip clubs everywhere you could visit with lots of huge-boobed girls strutting their stuff on stage. They had names like Toppsy Curvey, Kayla Kleevage, Wendy Whoppers, C.C. Moore, Susie Boobies and Bethany Bustin and there were a helluva lot more new ones on the way. A huge-titted army, in fact.
After a brief flurry in front of the cameras, the great Dawn Phoenix didn’t come back like her namesake. Dawn later popped up in 2002 on the TV dating show Shipmates, of all things. The date didn’t go so good through no fault of Dawn’s. Bea Summer of Germany never fulfilled her real modeling potential but at least she made a few SCORE appearances. Amber Bach enjoys the Florida lifestyle: bicycling, watching sports, sunning, hiking, going to the beach, swimming and lots of hot sex. Mimi Miyagi was a Republican candidate for governor of Nevada in 2006. Her slogan was “For the bare and honest truth.” She should have won. I know she’d have done a better job. The only SCORE model born on the 4th of July, Saholy was born on the island republic of Madagascar off the coast of Africa. Letha Weapons will always be known as one of the mega-boobed world’s greatest porn stars. She now lives in San Francisco where Dave left his heart. Romina Lopez was born in Paraguay and her 2004 discovery in Asuncion sparked off a wave of South American discoveries including Cynthia Romero, Paola Rios, and a dozen more V-Girls.
