Girls holding their magazines: a regular feature?

March 30, 2013 by Elliot James

This weekend’s Scorecard letter section has a letter from longtime reader K.S. who writes “I would like to see models posing with their magazine spreads become a regular feature. There’s something unbelievably arousing about it; after all, who hasn’t fantasized about being with a girl who pulls out a dirty mag in which she’s displaying her wares for your perusal as a prelude to fucking her hard up her tight ass? I bet models who are also wives and girlfriends do it all the time. It must send their men absolutely insane.”

I’m with K.S. on this. A digital file can’t exist without electricity and an instrument to play it. A magazine (or a DVD)  is a physical object. It has a feeling of permanence to it.

I always enjoy getting a photo from a model holding one of her mags, either by the cover or open to the layout. It doesn’t happen all that often. Most of the time, we’ll take the shot when she’s back on a return trip.

But why does K.S. like this kind of photo? Because whoever is in the magazine is proud of being in the magazine, and proud of her body, and she’s happy to show it in the photo. “This is me and I’m in this magazine.”

Pick your favorite TSG magazine cover and tell us why it’s your favorite

May 20, 2012 by Elliot James

In the ’90s, print distributors and retailers began inserting mens magazines into sealed, plastic polybags. They’re opaque and only transparent at the top where the title is printed and at the bottom for the bar code. This was started for a number of reasons.

They keep those rude and naughty covers discreetly concealed from irritating juvenile delinquents and old ladies with blue hair and the noses to match.

The bag also keeps the magazine clean. It can contain the DVD bonus without the printer having to bind the disc to the magazine. They also guarantee privacy for subscribers so that a mailman can’t read a magazine first before the reader does.

Those bags can also keep an adult mag rack section from becoming a public library. I’ve heard many an exasperated clerk tell a lingering browser to either buy a mag or put it back on the shelf. I’ve heard it myself a few times when I selfishly went overtime checking out the latest magazines. However, many adult stores crack open one copy of a title so the customers can check out the contents.

Some store employees don’t like polybagged magazines, whether they’re adult or not. Bagged magazines can be hard to scan. They’re difficult to stack on the racks. They’re more labor-intensive to return because the cover must be torn off before any unsold copies are returned to the distributors for credit.

Although the bags are an established fact of print magazine publishing now, TSG still believes that a cover should be created with the highest quality in mind, even though many readers will never see it until they get home. So we spend the time to do that, down to the colors, the cover girl and the cover shot.

I’ve posted 12 TSG magazine covers from the last four years.

What I want to know is, what is your favorite cover and why?

What attracted you to that cover the most? Was it the main girl? The smaller photos? A headline?

What makes a great cover?

What makes a weak cover?

I think that covers it!

I haven’t done a Blog about this since January 3, 2010, exactly two years ago.

Back then, SCORELAND member Jack had perceptively written about this kind of picture: “I agree that having a model hold up her SCORE pictorial brings everything full circle. Interesting to see that each model is smiling and proudly displaying her pictorial. I believe this brings back the human element and establishes the sense of realism.”

This kind of picture can’t be done with digital images. I don’t think a model holding up a tablet computer with her photo could ever have the same impact as her holding a printed magazine or a DVD cover in her hand. There’s a permanence with a physical product.

As Angela White commented, “There’s no way to describe the feeling of seeing yourself on the cover of a magazine!”

Come to think of it, I need to hit up Angela for a photo of her holding up her DVD, Angela White Finally Fucks.

Hotties on the cover

February 6, 2011 by Maria

One of the most important parts of my job as editor of V-mag is planning the cover of each issue. It is a labor of love because, first of all, I get to stare at some of the most excellent hotties of all time, and second of all, I find picking out a cover shot to be really exciting. They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but I like to think that when Vanessa (my art director for V-mag!) and I create each issue’s cover, we are asking to be judged. Our job is to make sure that we convey all of the hotness and bountiful boob flesh that await you inside of each issue. It is not a task that we take lightly.

Over the years, I have seen covers come and go, and while I probably shouldn’t say that I have favorites, I do. There are certain covers that just stand out in my mind and I like better than others. One of those covers is from the July 2009 issue of V-mag. There is something about that shot of Shyla Shy with her ass looking just so that makes me happy. I am also particular to the June 2010 cover featuring Karina Hart and her fabulous tits with the nipples starred out. I like her smile, and the entire cover works for me. (It is actually one of the most-fun covers Vanessa and I have worked on.) But my ultimate favorite is the recent February 2011 cover featuring Ashley Sage in a schoolgirl getup. That shot, with the open buttons exposing her cleavage and that horny look on her face…well, it drives me mad. I think it’s delicious.

Now, I know I am not alone in my love of certain covers because from time to time, I get emails from you, the fans, referencing certain cover girls that did it for you. I love when I get emails like that. It’s nice to know what you guys are into and/or thinking about.

So, I am going to ask you now: Who is your favorite cover girl and why? Is it the way she is posing? Or is it the outfit she is in? What is your favorite cover pose?

All of the information you give me is always taken into consideration when I plan the next issue of V-mag. I mean, I make the magazine for your enjoyment, so why not tell me what you enjoy seeing?

xoxo

What’s your go-to photo?

September 10, 2010 by Dave

SCORE Man C.A. from West Midlands, United Kingdom writes, “It’s funny that we all have those favorite pictures that we love to look at again and again. I have several, but a particular favorite of mine is from 2008. It’s from the “Big Boob Paradise” SCORE Calendar. Gianna Rossi’s March picture takes my breath away every time I look at it. The way she’s using her arms to gently squeeze her tits together and the way you get a little glimpse of bush over the top of her red panties gets me every time.

“Do any fellow SCORE Men have a picture they love to look at again and again? What about a favorite cover? The Holiday ’06 SCORE cover of Morgan Leigh is a classic. As far as V-Mag goes, the June ’07 Nadine Jansen cover takes some beating. C’mon, SCORE Men…what’s your favorite?”

Girls holding magazines…kinky, eh?

I have this oddball kind of…I don’t know what to call it…interest? Pasttime? Hobby? Fetish? Quirk?

No, it’s not paying a busty dominatrix to stomp me.

I like to see photos of the girls holding up the magazines they’re in. Kinky, eh?

Whenever a regular model is back in the building, I alway ask the studio to get a shot of her holding up a magazine she’s been in. I don’t know what it is about that simple act that I like so much. I know part of it is knowing we made that magazine they’re holding in their hands. Pride of creation, I think. It doesn’t work with the websites. There’s really no such concept as a cover in the Internet world. A photo of a model sitting by a computer monitor or holding up a laptop doesn’t have the magic, at least for me.
