Hotties on the cover

February 6, 2011 by Maria

One of the most important parts of my job as editor of V-mag is planning the cover of each issue. It is a labor of love because, first of all, I get to stare at some of the most excellent hotties of all time, and second of all, I find picking out a cover shot to be really exciting. They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but I like to think that when Vanessa (my art director for V-mag!) and I create each issue’s cover, we are asking to be judged. Our job is to make sure that we convey all of the hotness and bountiful boob flesh that await you inside of each issue. It is not a task that we take lightly.

Over the years, I have seen covers come and go, and while I probably shouldn’t say that I have favorites, I do. There are certain covers that just stand out in my mind and I like better than others. One of those covers is from the July 2009 issue of V-mag. There is something about that shot of Shyla Shy with her ass looking just so that makes me happy. I am also particular to the June 2010 cover featuring Karina Hart and her fabulous tits with the nipples starred out. I like her smile, and the entire cover works for me. (It is actually one of the most-fun covers Vanessa and I have worked on.) But my ultimate favorite is the recent February 2011 cover featuring Ashley Sage in a schoolgirl getup. That shot, with the open buttons exposing her cleavage and that horny look on her face…well, it drives me mad. I think it’s delicious.

Now, I know I am not alone in my love of certain covers because from time to time, I get emails from you, the fans, referencing certain cover girls that did it for you. I love when I get emails like that. It’s nice to know what you guys are into and/or thinking about.

So, I am going to ask you now: Who is your favorite cover girl and why? Is it the way she is posing? Or is it the outfit she is in? What is your favorite cover pose?

All of the information you give me is always taken into consideration when I plan the next issue of V-mag. I mean, I make the magazine for your enjoyment, so why not tell me what you enjoy seeing?

xoxo

    Hi, Maria:

Thank you for being the editor. Your perspective on what we like to see really adds excitement for me. I have one complaint that I’ve already addressed in an e-mail. Many of the models in both SCORE and V-Mag have far too much makeup on their beautiful faces. The lipstick is often garish and detracts from the model’s natural beauty. One example: Karina Hart is drop dead gorgeous and doesn’t need any makeup at all. But she usually appears with loud red lipstick. Some models may (may!) need a little bit of light lipstick and maybe a tiny bit of eye makeup, but most of your ladies don’t need any. Can you address this issue, please? Thank you

I like the teasing, like in the second cover and if there is a Minka pictorial please put her on the cover it makes the magazin a must buy. Maybe you should offer differnt covers so you can pick who you like?

A few years ago, a title change to V-mag was about to move forward. An announcement in the April 2008 issue about changing the name from Voluptuous to V-mag was published in the letters column by the previous editor. But then we started to get some serious mail and email from readers protesting the proposed change so the plan was halted. One of these letters, from T.A., is reprinted in part here:

I, for one, am sorry to read that you are considering changing your name from Voluptuous to “V-Mag.” V-Mag would be okay as a “nickname” or secondary logo, but I’m totally against such a change being considered as an official name change for the cover of the magazine. The term Voluptuous does not only speak of beautiful womanly proportions, but carries history and embodies certain sophistication as well.

Voluptuous is derived from both the Latin voluptuõsus and voluptas meaning “pleasure” and the French form voluptç meaning “sensuality.” Merriam-Webster goes on to give a thorough definition in stating, “Full of delight or pleasure to the senses; conducive to or arising form sensuous or sensual gratification; suggesting sensual pleasure by fullness and beauty of form…” This definition is essentially the embodiment of your magazine! Ironically enough, no definition for the term V-Mag existed. In my opinion, any shortening of the name would have the effect of cheapening it and thus taking what has risen to the level of an artful depiction of female beauty relegating it to the inferior and vulgar.

I believe you guys set out to not only create a magazine to be enjoyed by many, but to create a higher standard in the industry to last for all time. In 100 years, no one will remember a V-Mag, but I believe everyone will remember Voluptuous, the magazine that raised the standard and set a new paradigm in the display of female beauty with a touch of class.-T.A.

    @Maria: I like V-mag. I can imagine it stands for Viggo-magazine 😉

@J.D., good point. I also like V-mag because it’s shorter and more modern, but at the same time, I think that the old Voluptuous logo is very classic. I think maybe we should do a poll about that 🙂
@Stefan, good call. We often take into account the bag situation. I promise. 🙂
@Tom, Destiny looks pretty foxy in that red bikini…yum!

LOL@ Jenna. Hi Jenna! I like you! lol And you have been on a lot of covers, just not as the main covergirl. And you made back cover, too. 🙂 And I am sure that many V-men like you, silly.

I always enjoy covers that feature a model that I don’t expect to see there and who is one of my secret crushes. For that reason I was thrilled to see Destiny Rose on the April 2011 cover. Instant arousal!

Agree with Jack. Pls also remember in Europe the DVD inside plastic is hiding 2/3rds or the front page. So therefore I recommend some clearly busty images are placed on the top part of the maganzine, so no potential bust-guys can miss it at the store.

  10. J.D. says:

Never understood the whole stars on the nip thing, since clearly Shyla is buck nekkid on her cover, with 99.9% of her boob showing. Silly rules, lol. The covers are great, but one thing I noticed, Voluptuous seems too long a title, and always seems to get covered up by the models anyway. The V-Mag logo is short, neat, and catchy. I don’t know what headaches would occur from a title change, but since it’s referred to as V-Mag anyways, can’t imagine any confusion from readers. Who knows, maybe one day?

    Hi Maria,

I really like your January 2010 issue, as Karina Hart is a very popular, pretty model with a very warm welcoming smile.

Her breasts are just legally (in North America) covered by the stars which is very eye catching and gets the buyers attention. In Europe, men’s magazine covers feature fully bared breasts. The ring of other model’s pictures, tells me there is an abundance of big boobs inside for my viewing enjoyment. So I’m interested in the magazine to purchase.

I also like the pose and smile by Vanessa – it’s good to keep variety of models, poses and outfits since this tells the repeat readers that this something new while still familiar.

Outstanding job on all recent covers. I can now more fully appreciate all the thougth and effort that goes into our favouite magazine !
