Lapdancing in the United Kingdom is relatively new, at least compared to the USA. A recent study by Dr. Teela Sanders and Kate Hardy from the University of Leeds found that one in four British dancers have a college degree while 14% are using strip clubs to finance their undergraduate education. I love these studies. They uncover so much pure data.
Hardy and Sanders say the 300 dancers they quizzed reported high levels of job satisfaction, the majority listing flexibility as the main attraction of working in a strip club. Dr. Sanders cites the “endless supply of women” becoming strippers. “These women are incredibly body confident. I think there is something of a generational cultural difference. These young women do not buy the line that they are being exploited because they are the ones making the money out of a three-minute dance and a bit of a chat.”
Hardy and Sanders did call for better government regulation to improve dancers’ safety, like banning private rooms to reduce the danger to dancers from shady customers. Unemployed college graduates who couldn’t find jobs with their degrees in the lousy economy made up a large percentage of the dancers they surveyed. (I don’t think the recession has increased the ranks of big-boobed girls in modeling.)

It has been a few years since any of us heard from Colt. The last time was for a story for Crystal Gunns’ SCORE column, “The Gunns Show,” that was published in the May ’07 issue. Colt, Crystal, Maxi Mounds and Kayla Kupcakes teamed up as a supergroup for the first, and I guess the last, “Boobapalooza” held at the La Boheme Gentlemen’s Cabaret in Denver, Colorado.
“Colt 45 is crazy funny,” Crystal wrote. “She always talks about the old times on the road and how different everything is now. She loves her fans.” In the stripclub world, Colt knew everyone and everyone knew her.
I don’t know if Colt is still performing or if she’s doing something else. It’s difficult to not think of her naked.
The big-boobed stripclub circuit is wiped out these days. The heyday of the ’90s when Colt and her many peeps (Niki Knockers, Traci Topps, Alyssa Alps, Casey James and lots more) ruled the scene, criss-crossing North America, has ended. I miss that time. We posted this past week’s gallery of SCORE birthday girls, but I wanted to pay separate tribute to Alyssa today. Alyssa wrote a column in SCORE called “On The Road” that began in the January ’98 SCORE and ended in the June ’03 issue. That’s an extraordinary run for any column, especially in men’s mags. I enjoyed reading the columns about Alyssa’s trips to clubs all over the USA and seeing her photos with strip-club fans and the SCORE readers who’d go to see her shows and have a drink with her. It was really cool.
If you have those older SCORE issues and read her columns, you know the feeling. Alyssa was very proactive. She was always promoting SCORE. We were always on her mind. She was buddies with a ton of SCORE Girl feature dancers–you name her, Alyssa knew her–so they often popped their buttons in one photo or another in many columns. I wish the column had been transferred to SCORELAND like Crystal Gunns’ column, but at this point it’s not feasible. She finally agreed to do the Boob Cruise in 2000 but only to write the ship’s log for the special Boob Cruise edition. She was firm on that. No titties. No pussy. Of course, Alyssa changed her mind towards the end of the trip and posed on the beach for Jana, one of the BC photographers.
This photo is beat-up and grainy because it’s a scan of a Polaroid taken on September 28, 2001. These days, everything is digital and doesn’t age and color-fade like chemical pics on paper do, so there is no sense of a passage of time. When Alyssa was in Florida to dance at the Treasure Island club (now PT’s) in Hialeah, Dave, E., and I went to see one of her lunchtime shows, which we, uh, really, uh, enjoyed. Someone snapped a shot of us, and I put it in my photo album. Alyssa also posed for a few pictorials for the magazine that week so she was in the building and even did a column about visiting the staff. It was published in March ’02. Of course, she was the covergirl. As timing would have it, that issue also featured the first formal SCORE pictorial of Crystal.

I’ve been going to strip clubs for years, so with that in mind, I recently asked two questions of SCORELANDERS. My first question was: In strip clubs, how often do you get lap dances? Eighteen-percent said always, 42% said they’d get a dance if they saw a girl they really liked, 6% never buy dances and 33% said they don’t go to strip clubs.
Then I asked a question that was more germane to SCORELAND: Do you like photo sets and video with a strip club or lap dance theme? The results: 24% love them, 23% like them, 38% said they were indifferent and the remaining 14% hate them. So maybe strip clubs are just not as popular as they were in the ’90s. Or maybe guys can only handle the environment or the expense for so long before they bail out and need a break.
What I don’t see are any dancers stacked like Summer Sinn at Goldfingers or The Boobie Trap, two local skin emporiums. My friends in other cities tell me the same thing. What happened to all the really busty dancers across the U.S.? They’re not easy to find anymore. That’s one of the main reasons I don’t go like I used to.
